Revitalization in East Texas 2023

We had a great time at Pineywoods this past weekend talking about how to revitalize the rural church in East Texas. Kyle Bueermann of NAMB led the teaching for the weekend. Kyle grew up in rural West Texas and pastored in rural churches in Texas and New Mexico. He has a keen understanding of the rural church and a gracious outlook on the place of the rural church in America.

Over the course of the weekend we looked at various passages from Revelation 2, Acts 2, and others. A couple of the insights I wrote down were:

• “Jesus knows His churches.”
• “Do things Jesus’ way, not your way.”
• “Failure to repent will lead to the death of the church.”
• The average Baptist church has 72 people attending. Over half of SBC churches average under 50 in attendance.
• “Love the church you have, not the church you wish you had.”
• “Focus on reaching young men.”
• “Church needs to be my reason for missing other stuff.”
