Spring 2022 Prayer Update
This is from Russell Rathier in Vermont:
We need Prayer cover for Pastor Pete Taraski, his wife Nelia and their 16 year old daughter Genesis who are serving at Resurrection Baptist Church in Montpelier, VT. They answered the Call of God and moved here from Oregon last September. Pastor Taraski goes by the nickname “Chap” as he has been trained and has national certification as a Chaplain with First Responders with more than 15 years of experience with many outstanding references and letters of commendation for his work in this much needed area.
After arriving, Chap noticed the Montpelier Police did not have a Chaplain and offered the Chief of Police, Brian Peete, that he was willing to volunteer in that capacity. Chap spent the next couple months filling out forms, being interviewed, and being vetted by the District Attorney. The Police Force has been under much scrutiny with Defund the Police movement requesting less police officers and more counselors. The Police Chief felt bringing on a Chaplain would be a positive step to help defuse the situation. Chief Peete announced earlier this week that for the first time in the history of the Montpelier Police Department they now have a nationally certified Chaplain voluntarily coming on board to help the first responders and the community to be able to work through situations as needed.
Three people who saw the post responded with much adversity and called for the Chief of Police to rescind this appointment. Comments stated that this Baptist Pastor is a Homophobe and Racist, both completely false and unsubstantiated. With no discussion or debate the Chief informed Chap that his services would not be required. Chief Peete was pressured into dismissing Chap before he even began because of the Faith of the Chaplain. This was decided after the Police Chief had a meeting with the Mayor. Chap was told it was because of separation of church and state issue.
When I spoke with Chap today his main concern was for his 16 year old daughter who attends Montpelier High School and is feeling pressure from students at the school.
Chap and family have only been here 6 months and are feeling the Spiritual attack. Vermont is a tough place to Pastor a Bible Believing and God loving community, Montpelier is definitely one of the toughest areas of the state, and Resurrection Baptist has had its share of Spiritual Warfare the last couple years.
Please Pray for this brother, his family and flock.
